Goodbye to the old… Hello to the new (pistol, that is) January 10, 2008

Well, we made it through the holidays. We’ve been sick with some sort of head cold/sinus infection/bronchitis thing for several weeks. Slowly but surely we’re getting better, though.
I enjoy target shooting quite a bit, althought I don’t hunt.
I just traded in my Rock Island Armory model 1911 .45 ACP pistol in on a brand new Springfield Armory XD .45 ACP polymer-framed pistol, which is two tone green and black. It has the 5 inch barrel on it.
I wanted something that I could upgrade if I wanted to. The Rock Island 1911 was a pretty basic pistol. It shot well, but it did not have the capability of changing the sights or adding a laser if desired. It also only had an eight shot magazine.
I was also looking at the Smith & Wesson Military & Police pistols, also in .45 ACP, but I was able to work a little bit better deal on the XD than on the M&P. I also found out that the XD is made in Croatia; I would have in retrospect rather had a USA-made pistol. Hindsight is, as “they” (whoever “they” are) say, 20/20.
The new XD came with a case, a holster, two 13 shot clips, a clip holster, a speed loader, lock, and cleaning brush. It has a rail so that a flashlight or laser can be installed, plus there are a miriad of other options and upgrades for it.
I haven’t gotten to shoot it yet, but weather permitting, will try to get out this Saturday and see how it does.
I’ll let you know what I find out.
Seasonal Reflections From The Mirror In The Garage December 26, 2007

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas.
We’re doing a modified split family thing… we saw my oldest daughter and her husband on Christmas day, then we’re going in to see parents and in-laws next weekend. Maybe my wife’s other two presents will show up by then.
I somehow caught a sinus infection, so it wasn’t much of a restful break over the long weekend. But it was still better being sick at home than trying to work while being sick.
I really have to fight to keep from getting discouraged at all the commercialism of the Christmas season. Christmas decorations come out right after October 31, and it’s that way until January 1st.
Now, I have nothing against the decorations at all. I enjoy the lights and so forth. I just don’t like taking Jesus out of the Christmas season. It IS the time we celebrate His birthday.

There’s no doubt that we need all the doctors we can get. If we didn’t have them, what would happen to all the old magazines?
This cartoon pretty well sums it up for me… December 18, 2007

Christmas Cantata December 17, 2007

Our church’s choir did their Christmas Canata last night.
It was “Ten Thousand Hallelujahs”, written by Ron and Shelly Hamilton. The choir and the readers of the play all did an excellent job.
Then our preacher preached an excellent message on the hallelujahs in the book of Revelation, chapter 19.

Since this site is named “The Impala Kid’s Garage”, I thought I would have some fun and list all the different cars, trucks, and motorcycles I’ve owned over the years…
The first vehicle I drove regularly was a real classic… it wasn’t technically mine, but I drove it to work at Kentucky Power during college and to the Bluegrass Restaurant, where everyone went to cruise on the weekends.

I have a couple of other websites that I run and manage.
One is www.MotorSportsNews.Net, which is a stock car racing site, and the home of the free Stock Car Gazette e-zine.
The other one is Cold Nose Consulting, the home of my computer consulting business.
The only problem with either of those is that I can’t really express personal thoughts, feelings, opinions, and so forth.
So, instead of creating another directory in one of my web sites, I decided to sign up for a free WordPress.Com blog. This way I can get experience in using the interface here, so that I can perhaps help someone if they want to sign up for one of these, too.
I’m not really sure what you’ll end up finding here, but I can guarantee it will be boring to mostly everyone but me. And I don’t mind that, because I’m the best conversationalist I ever had.
