Be very aware that all those decisions you make as a young adult will cause consequences when you’re older.

As a young person, you never think you’ll be old, and then… BAM! (with apologies to Emeril) it hits you in the face.

Eating poorly as a young person WILL catch up with you eventually… usually in the form of high blood pressure and bad cholesterol, not to mention excess weight, which hurts you all the way around (no pun intended).

Make those decisions wisely, and make them count. You don’t want to end up like me.

Don’t get me wrong… God’s been very good to me, but I have brought most of the troubles and problems I have at this point in my life to myself.

Although straight line performance was certainly not among the strong points of the third generation Toyota Corolla, you wouldn’t know it to watch this white four door scream down the drag strip in less than twelve seconds.

It seems there is no shortage of strange and awesome drag cars coming out of Australia these days and this sleepy Corolla is no exception. While at a standstill this vintage Toyota might appear to be showroom stock—unless you happen to notice the small slicks on the back—once it starts moving it becomes abundantly clear the car is anything but.

Thanks to the turbocharged Nissan VG30 V6 stuffed underneath the hood, this Corolla has more power than the Toyota engineers who designed would have ever imagined. Best of all, behind the Nissan engine is a 5 speed manual transmission.

The finished product is a pretty serious car that looks like nothing more than a sedate vintage sedan—a true sleeper. To us, the only way this old Toyota could be any cooler is if the steering wheel was on the correct side.

After being held as prisoners of war in the north (Ohio) for a year or so, we’ve escaped and have rejoined our southern brothers and sisters in central Kentucky.  Amen.

The 240SX detailed in the last update didn’t last too long.

I sold it about a month ago, and bought a very ratty ’92 Toyota truck for commuting.

It has 242K miles on it, and has body parts on it from at least 3 other trucks.  Prior to me, it’s been wrecked at least 2 times, and, other than the doors, there is not any body part that is not damaged in some way.

It is held together (literally!) with duct tape, sticks, and a bobby pin, which is needed to bridge a bad electrical connection that cause the fuel pump to shut down otherwise.

It’s a real gem.  Some previous owner had lowered it all the way around, which looks cool.  It also has a 4-Runner or 4WD front end on it, but one of the wrecks really did a number on it.

It’ll be a good one to keep for my younger son to drive, and for light hauling… maybe.

I bought a new car a few weeks ago… a 1989 Nissan 240SX.

It’s silver, and is a 2.4 liter 5 speed.  The body has 196K miles on it, but the engine has been swapped, so there’s no way to know how many miles it might have.

As you can see from the photo, it has some cosmetic challenges.  The worst one was the rear hatch, which was rusted completely through where the spoiler is mounted.  The hatch has already been replaced, and I have purchased a replacement fender and door for the driver’s side, waiting to be installed.

It’s been equipped with obligatory “NISMO” stickers.  We also replaced the factory driving lights with some Boschs I had laying around from another project.

Future plans include new struts, fixing a exhaust heat shield rattle, and general clean-up.  It is a ball to drive.

This is one of the cars the kids like to do “drifting” (controlled sliding) with.  In my care, I doubt it will see such hazardous duties.

1. Getting called from work at 10PM Tuesday night and not getting to bed until 2:30 AM Wednesday morning… not so good.
2. Sleeping in… good
3. My car-pool buddy missing the large note I left for him on the back of our car in the driveway that told him I was sleeping in, and waking me up by phone to see if I was going to work or not… not so good
4. Getting back to sleep for a litte bit… good
5. Convenience store not selling me a 99 cent can of iced tea because they had a $5.00 minimum credit card purchase… not so good
6. Car dying on me smack in the middle of SR741 at Kings Mill… not so (YIKES!!) good
7. Finding a close parking place (albeit an unused motorcycle spot on a rainy day)… good
8. Getting called by security 5 minutes later to move the car because rules are rules.. zero tolerance.. etc, etc… not so good
9. Smacking a large pole while backing out of the motorcycle parking place… not so good
10. Only scratching the paint a little instead of caving the entire rear end in like it sounded… good
11. Having to park in rural West Virginia (aka the last row of the furthest parking lot east from the office)… not so good
12. Getting a Turkey Hill raspberry tea from the vending machine at work… (very) good
13. Realizing that I am saved and on my way to Heaven, no matter what, and that fact overriding all the “not so good” so far… absolutely good!

We like the small-town feel that Lebanon has, although it is probably two-three times larger than the central Kentucky town we lived in.

Our place has two huge oak trees in the yard.  We set up our yard swing under one of those.

As soon as we get settled, then starts the process of getting Ohio drivers’ licenses and registering the vehicles in Ohio.

I may live in Ohio, but I will always be a native Kentuckian.  Always.
